Kiddie Kampus Visit

On Wednesday Miss Emma visited Kiddie Kampus in Bayport!  She got to meet the 4 year olds, 3 year olds and even some of the 2 year olds.  They read some stories together and talked about the library.  It was so much fun!

Together they read Lola at the Library by Anna McQuinn and talked about some of the things that you can do at the library, like picking out books, going to story times, and having fun!  One of the most important items that Lola brought to the library was her library card so that she could take home the books about bears and shoes that she picked out at the library.

Library Card Facts:
Did you know that your child can get a library card starting at birth?  A Juvenile Card is for children from birth through 5th grade.  If your child doesn’t have one, be sure to bring them in today to get one!
All you need is:
  • A parent/guardian must fill out and sign a Registration Form.
  • Parent/guardian must provide proof of residence.  This includes a current library card OR valid NYS Driver’s License, Utility Bill or Lease Agreement with current address listed.

What can you do with a library card?
  •          Take out books and other materials
  •          Register & attend Children’s Programs
  •          Use computers & print
  •          Check out museum passes
Each child was given a practice library card to fill out and bring to the library to exchange for a real one.  The back of the card provided directions for how to use the library card to check out books.

Miss Emma told the children all about the different kinds of books at the library.  They all wanted to know if there were books on dinosaurs, science, germs, princesses, wizards, and bears! (All of these were actual questions!)  There are books at the library about all of those    topics and they talked about asking the librarian for help when they want to find something.  Together, they read We’re Going On A Book Hunt by Pat Miller and explored all the things you do to pick out the perfect book.  Some of those included being respectful in the library, being gentle with books, and how to check them out of the library.  The children did a great job of following along, joining in and remembering the repetitive parts!

We hope to see everyone in the library soon!  If any of your children were a part of this experience, encourage them to say hello to Miss Emma and the other librarians when they’re in the library!
